The young pregnant employee and the millionaire

The young pregnant employee and the millionaire

The great hall of the mansion in Angra dos Reis shone like a treasure under the light of the crystal chandeliers.

That was the most anticipated annual benefit dinner, the event that everyone was talking about.

Businessmen, politicians, and celebrities chatted animatedly as bartenders moved nimbly between them, carrying trays filled with glasses of bubbly champagne.

Among the bustle was Amara, a young employee who had only been working in the house for a few months.

Five months pregnant, she struggled to do her job despite obvious exhaustion.

His hands trembled, sweat beaded his forehead, and his steps were slow; His body was telling him that he couldn’t take it any more.

But no one seemed to notice. Until—crash!

The burst of broken glass reverberated throughout the room. The talks came to a screeching halt. Everyone turned their eyes to Amara.

She stood motionless, surrounded by the fragments of the cups she had just dropped. His eyes, wide and full of fear, reflected just what he feared most.

Before he could say a word, a cold, curt voice crossed the room: “USELESS!”

It was Veronica, the fiancée of Hunter Cross, the multimillionaire owner of the mansion.

Elegant, arrogant and feared, she walked with firm steps, her black dress glistening like steel in the light.

—“I warned Hunter that hiring someone like you was a mistake,” he said contemptuously.

Amara swallowed hard and tried to stand up: “I’m sorry… I… I—”

—“¡Shut up!” Veronica interrupted, getting so close that her heels brushed the young woman’s bulging belly.

Amara backed away, instinctively protecting herself.

– “Please… don’t hurt me… it hurts now…” he whispered in a trembling voice.

The entire room remained paralysed. No one dared to intervene.

Veronica raised her hand, ready to hit her.

But before the blow subsided, a firm and deep voice broke the silence: “Enough, Veronica.”

Everyone turned around when they heard her.

Hunter Cross was approaching. Tall, imposing and serious, but with a look that did not reflect anger. It wasn’t anger or fury… it was disappointment.

Veronica tried to compose herself: “Honey, you saw what this girl did. She—”

—“You’re fired.”

The room was completely silent. “What?” she said, incredulous, laughing nervously. “Hunter, this must be…”

The guards approached when they received Hunter’s signal. This time, Veronica didn’t laugh.

—“¡You can’t be serious! By a simple employee?”

Hunter no response. No problem. His icy expression said it all.

Veronica was escorted out of the room, protesting, while the guests pretended not to look… although everyone followed every detail carefully.

When the commotion was over, Hunter knelt next to Amara.

—“¿Can you get up?” he asked softly, surprising the young woman with his gentle tone.

She nodded, trembling like a leaf. He helped her carefully, as if he feared something would hurt her more.

—“You need to see a doctor,” he said quietly. “And… A safe place.”

Amara looked at him, confused.

—”Lord—why? I’m nobody to you.”

Hunter vacated for a moment. His dark eyes revealed something he was trying to hide.

—”You shouldn’t be ignored. And no one should treat you like this.”

A wave of relief mixed with fear swept through Amara. Afraid of what this meant.

Because that night, which began with humiliation and pain, he would end up keeping a secret capable of changing the destiny of both: a secret from Hunter’s past, the reason behind his silent fury… And why I couldn’t take my eyes off her belly.
