My house sits on a corner lot. Two years ago, a newly married couple moved in next door and immediately started making weird comments about my house’s yellow color. Not long after, they outright DEMANDED I paint it another color. My house has always been yellow, which I love, and there isn’t any rule against it.
They contacted the police and the city regarding my house, but both told them they had no basis since I hadn’t broken any laws. They even tried suing me (their case was dismissed, and they were ordered to pay my legal fees), and attempted to convince our neighbors to create an HOA to force me to repaint. The neighbors rejected their idea, so now they’re ostracized by everyone.
I was away for two weeks, and when I returned, my house was GRAY. I barely recognized it since I’m so accustomed to its yellow color.
The neighbor across the street came over and showed me photos he took of a painting crew setting up and doing the job. He and another neighbor both called the police, but the workers had a valid work order and had already been paid, so the authorities couldn’t intervene.
EVERYTHING DONE TO MY HOUSE WAS TECHNICALLY LEGAL AND NO HARM WAS DONE! Still, there was no way my neighbors would get off without consequences.⬇️
