Men who are actually named James Bond reveal how it has led to dangerous problems

A group of men revealed that having a name etched in pop culture like James Bond isn’t all that is cracked up to be.

For most people, their birth name doesn’t give them that many problems, but this doesn’t seem to be the case for men who share a name with the most popular and well-known spy in the world, James Bond.

Unfortunately for them, the last name Bond isn’t particularly unique, and James also happens to be a rather popular Christian name.

While you might assume this comes with a whole bunch of hilarious stories, multiple men have come forward to dispel this idea.

In a video that has begun circulating on social media, a group of men explain the horrible situations they have found themselves in just because of their name.

The clip is actually for a trailer of a documentary that released in 2022 looking at the phenomenon of living in a world with the name Bond… James Bond.

In the documentary, multiple Bonds said it was crucial to have your ID on you when it comes to dealing with the authorities, as they rarely believe the person is being genuine, for obvious reasons. One Bond even explained his name resulted in a very dangerous encounter with the police as the officer pulled a gun on him.

Recalling the story, he said: “So I tell him, ‘James’ and he says, ‘Do you got a last name there, James?’ and I said, ‘Bond’, and so he reached through the window of the car and grabbed me by my shirt and said, ‘You f**ked with the wrong guy on the wrong day’, and proceeded to pull me through the window of the car.

“I’m telling the guy, ‘Please, please, please, my name really is James Bond.’ That, right there, was enough to get the guy to draw down on me – up from the holster and right in my face – and he’s like, ‘Yeah right, and I’m Donald f**king Duck. Get on the ground, get on the ground.’

“He sort of calmed down, had me stand at the back of the car, went back to his car, ran my driver’s licence, came back and said, ‘That’s a cool name, son’ and went ahead and let me go.”

So if your last name is Bond and you’re about to welcome a baby boy, maybe give James a miss as a first name.

Daniel Craig had a savage three-word response to who should be the next James Bond

It turns out, not even Daniel Craig can tell us who the next James Bond is going to be.

One of the most beloved actors to take on the iconic role of 007, Craig starred in five Bond films over the past two decades including Casino Royale (2006), Quantum of Solace (2008), Skyfall (2012), Spectre (2015), and No Time To Die (2021).

After the actor announced that No Time To Die would be his last Bond flick, rumors on his replacement naturally arose with the likes of Idris Elba, Tom Hardy, and Aaron-Taylor Johnson being discussed.

Although details on the new Bond (and film) have remained ambiguous, Craig recently weighed in on who he thinks should take on the role.

Whilst promoting his latest film Queer with co-star Drew Starkey, Craig was asked by Variety: “If you were to pass the James Bond torch, who would you love to see play him?”

His response? Well, it was a simple: “I don’t care.”

Now before anyone gets all riled up, Craig was laughing when he said this so it’s all jokes and love here, but the actor did previously express that he has no regrets on his decision to stop playing the role.

“I had an incredibly fortunate 17 years of my life making this,” Craig told the BBC in 2022. “I literally want to spend the next 20 years of my life trying to unhook it all and try and put it into a place because it was incredible.”

“I left it where I wanted it to be,” he continued. “And that I was given the chance to do that with the last movie.”

Although the casting for the new Bond hasn’t been confirmed yet, casting directors and producers tied to the franchise have hinted at what they’re not looking for.

In a 2023 interview with the Radio Times, casting director Debbie McWilliams noted that while younger actors were briefly considered, they’re now off the table. “We did look at a lot of younger actors, and I just don’t think they had the gravitas,” she told the outlet.

“They didn’t have the experience, they didn’t have the mental capacity to take it on, because it’s not just the part they’re taking on, it’s a massive responsibility.”

Meanwhile, producer Barbara Broccoli similarly noted that while the new Bond can’t be too young, he also can’t be too old. “When we cast Bond, it’s a 10-, 12-year commitment,” Broccoli told Variety in 2022. “So he’s probably thinking, ‘Do I really want that thing?’ Not everybody wants to do that. It was hard enough getting [Daniel Craig to do it].”

Aaron Taylor-Johnson isn’t becoming next James Bond, insider states

Speculation has mounted over who exactly will take over Daniel Craig as 007 – but insiders have ruled one actor out.

It’s one of the best known roles in cinema, and it’s now open for its next occupant since Craig’s departure from the role in No Time to Die in 2021.

The movie’s pretty final ending (spoiler alert) sees Craig’s iteration of the character actually being killed off, the only time Bond has ever died on screen.

Craig starred in five films as Bond over a period of 16 years.

Recently there has been much speculation that the next actor to take on the role would be British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

The Sun reported that the actor, who appeared in the Kick-Ass films and Marvel Cinematic Universe, had actually been formally offered the job.

Responding to rumours that he was in the running for the role, he told Numero magazine he thought it was ‘charming and wonderful that people see me in that role’.

There was speculation that Aaron Taylor-Johnson would take the role.

He added: “I take it as a great compliment.”

Eon Productions, which makes the Bond movies, has said it will not comment on speculation about the next actor to take on the mantle.

However, a production insider reached out to BBC News and told the outlet that there is ‘no truth to the rumours’ that Taylor-Johnson has been formally offered the role.

But he’s not the only actor who could be in the running to be the next Bond.

Another bookies’ favourite is Scottish actor Jack Lowden, who starred in the Apple TV+ series Slow Horses alongside Gary Oldman.

For his part, Lowden didn’t give anything away on the matter.

He told UNILAD: “I still really am not over the fact that Daniel Craig doesn’t do it anymore.

“I think an older James Bond would be fantastic.”

Two other bookies’ favourites to take on the role is chain-wearing heart-throb and star of Normal People Paul Mescal.

Others include Dev Patel, as well as Tom Hardy.

Another is star of The Witcher and Superman Henry Cavill, who had actually had a very close call with the role during the last round of casting.

In the round of auditions which ultimately led to Craig being cast in the iconic role for Casino Royale, Cavill actually came down to the final two for the role.

While he may not have scored the role of Bond at the time, the auditions put Cavill on the radar of James Vaughn, the director of Man of Steel.

People are just seeing how eye-color changing procedure works and say it looks ‘extremely dangerous’

People have reacted with shock to a viral video of an eye-colour changing procedure.

Fancy changing your eye colour? Want those Megan Fox icy blues? Well, it seemingly takes a pretty squirm-worthy procedure in order to do that, but it is possible.

In a video posted to X, the procedure is documented step by step, as a man undergoes the toe curling method to take his chocolate browns to sparkling blues.

In the video, you can see him laying down for the surgery as a clinical light shines on his face, and then shows the blurry-eyed result, in which his eyes have successfully changed color.

What is the medical procedure to change your eye color?

The actual process of an eye-colour change is called keratopigmentation, also known as ‘corneal tattooing’, which involves a laser which tunnels in to create a ‘superficial cornea’, and place in the desired color pigment to the eye.

That’s not the only procedure that can change the color of your eyes.

Another option is laser depigmentation, which is exactly how it sounds.

It uses lasers to lighten the eye color. Wince.

Another option is to implant a new prosthetic iris, also known as ‘iris Implant surgery’.

While it sounds pretty painful, it’s actually meant to be a relatively quick procedure (considering it changes a massive part of your appearance forever).

Laser keratopigmentation takes about 30 minutes and you can return home one hour later.

What are the risks?

Like any surgical procedure, it doesn’t come without risks.

Laser Keratopigmentation can result in some aesthetic issues such as inconsistent eye color, and the color fading over time.

On the more serious end, it can also lead to light sensitivity and a bacterial eye infection.

On top of that, it tends to burn a serious hole in your wallet, with verywell health estimating the average price as $10,000 for both eyes.

French company ‘New Colour’, who specialize in Keratopigmentation, have put out several viral videos on the procedure.

Their FLAAK technique works by making a micro-tunnel in the cornea and then introducing the pigment to the iris.

Reassuring clients about the safety of the surgery, they write: “Through its superficial, micro-invasive and reversible treatment, the FLAAK technique is the only surgical procedure allowing eye color to be changed with optimal safety!

“The laser used is the Femtoseconde VisuMax (Zeiss), the only laser that allows the FLAAK technique to be performed, 100% laser and automated keratopigmentation.

“Likewise, the BiochromaEyes pigment is the only pigment biocompatible with the cornea having received marketing authorization as a medical device by the health authorities.

“There are two other surgical techniques banned in France because they are sources of potentially serious complications.”

Although some people are pleased that there’s something you can change if you’re not comfortable with the way you look and want to build your confidence, but others just seem perplexed.

One commented on the video: “I wonder how that affects the eye with time.”

“Why would anyone want blue eyes,” questioned one person.

“I have blue eyes and I can’t even see when the sun is out! My kids all have brown eyes and they be seeing everything,” another added.

Another Twitter user said the procedure looked ‘extremely’ dangerous.

If you can’t afford, or are worried about the seriousness of the procedure, there’s always contact lenses…

Scientist discovered how much the internet actually weighs and people are shocked calling it ‘ridiculous’

When we think of the internet, we might think of something ephemeral existing in some alternate place.

But despite this rather abstract idea of where and what the internet even is, one scientist managed to figure out how much it weighs.

Of course, there are lots of ways that we could think about the internet when we’re trying to calculate that figure.

One obvious thing to take account of is the amount of infrastructure which is required to actually keep the internet running.

For example, the Cloud might sound like your holiday snaps are floating about in the atmosphere somewhere- but in fact, they are stored on a vast physical server, probably locked away in a warehouse somewhere.

So first of all, this definition of the internet does not include the apparatus which are required to keep it running.

Needless to say that would be significantly heavier than the weight that Russell Seitz ended up calculating.

This is how much the network weighs (DrPixel / Getty)

This is how much the network weighs (DrPixel / Getty)

This was around the weight of a strawberry, which is an insane thought really – that the entirety of the information on the internet weighs that much.

But what exactly is it that physically weighs this much?

Well, even though we might imagine the internet in an ephemeral way, it does have some physical mass – albeit a very tiny amount.

This is the electrons which are required to circulate in order for the network to stay up and running so we can stream ourselves playing video games, eating food, or sell our used bread maker.

The calculation done by Seitz calculated roughly how many electrons would need to pass through the internet to maintain the network.

In 2007, he wrote as per The Guardian: “An ampere is some 1018 electrons a second.

“Straightforward calculation reveals that some 50 grams of electrons in motion make up the internet.”

That's obviously not including the hardware (seksan Mongkhonkhamsao / Getty)

Whether 50 grams is a lot depends on what it is you’re weighing. You wouldn’t need many almonds to make up 50 grams, but you would need a lot more grains of rice.

And with electrons, you need a lot of them to make up 50 grams, and we mean a LOT.

That’s because an electron has a mass of 9.1×10-31 kilograms, or 9.1 divided by 10 31 times.

In 2011, professor of computer science at the University of California, John D. Kubiatowicz, explained that information does, indeed, have mass.

Using the example of an e-book, he said they often use a transistor to trap electrons and although the number of electrons don’t change, he said, as per AZO Quantum: “The trapped electrons have a higher energy.”

However, one person called the weight ‘ridiculous’, writing on social media: “Please elaborate. That is a ridiculous statement.”

While others pointed out that this obviously doesn’t include all the things we need to use the internet.

One wrote: “Not counting all the machines and cables that’s needed to keep it running,” while another commented: “I guess there is no hardware required to make up the Internet.”
