For a moment, it became hard to breathe. Tears welled up in my eyes. My head was full of a thousand questions. But at the heart of this tragedy were two children: the baby, peacefully sleeping in her big brotherās warm embrace, and the boy himself ā confused, scared, but so touchingly protective.
The boy didnāt say much. He only asked:
ā Can we stay here? Iāll look after her, I promise.
I sat down next to him, put my arm around his shoulders and said:

Later, we found out the family had been going through a very difficult time. The mother was desperate and didnāt know where to turn. Thankfully, the story spread, and kind people stepped in to help.
Now the brother and sister are in temporary care with their aunt, and the mother is receiving support and undergoing treatment.
This story could have ended in tragedy. But the reminder of how important it is to reach out and help in time made all the difference.
Sometimes, a child can teach us more than an adult. He showed that love is a powerful force. Even in the smallest heart, it can be enough to save a life.
